Putting it simply, you have a duty as my...my own little guard. Do you understand?"

"Yes."

"Do you accept this vow as your contract~?"

"Yes."

"And if blood is shed in time to come, what will that blood mean?"

"...It... will be a stepping stone to regaining what I have lost..."

"Yes. And what are you to me?"

"Whatever you wish for me to be."

"Yes."

"Is that all, my highest lady?"

"One addition. For this vow to be sealed, you must first taste the punishment that breaking it in any way will serve you~"

These two are Suzume and Nomura, Nomura would be about 15 years of age here, and Suzume would be 14.
He was taken into her village and she was immediately fascinated by him. Her father, the leader of almost kingly standards of that village, had been looking for a guard for her. He brought all the strongest men in as people for her to choose, but she was bored by them all. Eventually, she chose herself, upon meeting "the mysterious boy from far away".

He was assigned as her Guard, and trained by the elites of that village to fulfill his job to the best of his capabilities.

Years passed, and he obliged to his duties unwaveringly, by that time Suzume kept him by her side always.
Her father, however, had other intentions for him. Seeing his potential and his daughter's obvious partiality towards him, by Nomura's early to mid twenties he sent him to Konoha, to work as a sensei there for reasons not even Nomura is aware of. He was only following orders, after all.

So, to keep things professional and to keep loose ties with anyone and everyone in that village was a personal goal he set for himself.

...He's a little baffled at how surprisingly hard that goal is to keep, though, all because of one person~ xD
